Q. I'm interested in using some of your reference books for my genealogical research. Do you have
a list of libraries at this site that shows where your books may be found?
A. Yes. Click on this library list to review current book holding locations.
Q. What does "ESCN" stand for?
A. The acronymn "ESCN" stands for "Early South Carolina Newspapers."
Q. How many books do you publish each year?
A. We publish one ESCN Database Reports book for each publication year of an early South Carolina
newspaper researched. Since the newspapers vary in size year to year, our research times vary as well.
However, based on recent trends in newspaper size and research timeframes, we currently average 6 to 8 new
books published each year.
Q. I want to use your Search Service. Do I have to send in one of your official Search Request forms?
A. Not at all; we provide the Search Request form simply as a convenience to our customers. A handwritten
or typed Search Request will do just as well. Just be sure to include your name and address for the forwarding
of your search report, your primary search surname, up to 10 reasonable spelling variations, and the record
counts associated with each. Also please remember to include your search fee payment.
Q. Do you accept payment by credit card?
A. We currently only accept payment from individuals by either check or money order. This is because the
very large majority of our customers (in terms of annual revenues generated) are academic or public libraries
who purchase our series of books and those customers use purchase orders and then pay by check. Currently,
the volume of our Surname Search Service business just does not justify the additional costs that would be
incurred by us (in terms of setup fees and monthly bank discount fees) in order to offer payment by credit card.
However, we are constantly monitoring this business volume and if we see a decided increase in our Surname
Search Service business, we will certainly consider adding the credit card payment option in the future.
Q. Can I get a discount if I want to use your Search Service to search for more than one surname?
A. Yes. If a customer has 4 or more unique surnames (not including reasonable spelling variations for those
surnames) that they wish to search for at one time, ESCN Database Reports will offer a discounted search fee
price. Simply contact us in advance with the surnames that you wish to search for and we will be happy to
determine a specific discounted search fee price for you.
