HOW TO ORDER A SEARCH

1. Researchers should first take a few minutes to read the About Our Search Service page accessed from the main Search Service Menu. This introduction provides a good overall view of what our Search Service is about and explains what our Search Service provides.

2. Next, access either the Online Listing of Surnames, the Online Listing of Ship Names, or the Online Listing of Slave Names and look for your surname, ship name, or slave name of primary interest. These Online Listings show all surnames, ship names, and slave names currently found in our database, along with the applicable record count associated with each name listed. Review of these Listings will tell you in advance whether or not there are records in our Database for the particular surname, ship name, or slave name you are interested in.

3. If you find your surname, ship name, or slave name of interest in our Online Listings, return to the main Search Service Menu and access the Online Search Request Form. Using your browser's Print feature, print the Search Request Form and then return to the applicable Online Listing. Jot down the main (primary) surname, ship name, or slave name you are interested in and the record count associated with that surname, ship name, or slave name and put it in the Primary Search Surname (or Ship Name or Slave Name) field on the Search Request Order Form.

4. Next, look for possible spelling variations and potential misspellings for your primary search surname, ship name, or slave name in the appropriate Online Listings. Customers may include up to 10 reasonable spelling variations or potential misspellings within the framework of a single Search. Please review the Reasonable Spelling Variations page for some guidelines as to what is and what is not considered to be reasonable.

5. If you find spelling variations and/or potential misspellings for your surname, ship name, or slave name of interest, record those spelling variations and/or misspellings on the Search Request Form too, along with the applicable record count for each.

6. Add the record counts of your primary search surname, ship name, or slave name and all spelling variations together to determine a Total Record Count for your Search Request. Use this Total Record Count to determine your applicable Search Fee from the Search Fee Schedule shown on the Search Request Form. The Search Fee Schedule can also be accessed at the main Search Service Menu. Enter this amount as your Search Fee.

7. Next, if you are a Kansas resident, you will need to add 6.5% Sales Tax.

8. Finally, calculate the Total Amount Due and send along with your Search Request Form to the address shown on the form. Our address is also found on our Contact Information page. Please note all Search Fee payments must be paid by Check or Money Order and must accompany your Search Request. Sorry, we are not currently set up to process credit card or other types of online financial transactions.

9. Sit back and relax. After your Search Request is received at our company office, your Search Request will be entered into our system, run accordingly, and the Search Results Report will then be mailed back to you within 2 weeks after our receipt of your Search Request. Please note that is a maximum turnaround time. Normally searches are run and Search Results Reports are mailed back to customers within 3 to 4 days after a Search Request is received, but occasionally the inhouse publishing of our books slows these turnaround times down somewhat.

That's all there is to it! Please email us if you have any questions. We look forward to being of service to you!
